The other kicker is that in a small town, your cost of living should be less to compensate to a certain extent for the drop in income. But yeah, along with childcare, it's a factor. And I'm not saying one solution fits all. But I do think that young lawyers have a tendency to want to stay in the bigger centres without considering smaller centres. I get the reasons for it, I really do. I can tell you, when I moved to a very small centre for work, it sucked in many ways; I was away from the Warden, it was a lengthy drive back to see her every weekend, I had no social group where I was working and I had to be careful about what I did and said as one of the "town lawyers". But the alternative was to remain unemployed in the early part of my career. I decided that getting work and experience trumped the suckage.
