I really don't wanna get into d*ck measuring contest with the tiresome doctor v. lawyer career debate in terms of $$$, rewards, etc.... or even a BBB v. PI or whatever pissing match. image I do, though,  wanna remark on the business prospect, revenue stream and opportunity scope aspect when it comes to doctors & dentists.

Being on the 'Buzz for 15+ years, I've learnt a lot, especially from many of the senior learned folks on here (eg. Pettifogger, et al). Many years ago, with a big ego and a super large head on my shoulder I lambasted Grandpa MoL calling him "a lazy bum, a useless hack, resting on the laurels of previous work, etc" alluding to the notion that D-side insurance counsel "don't have to look for work". MoL was kind enough to give me a lengthy elo lecture making me understand how even he "has to look for work" per se (ie. what's known in the legal world as "client dev"). Ditto for our esteemed Chicken Little (a former Bay St. PARTNOR) who explained to me that even though corporate in-house counsel don't "have to look for work", they are highly accountable to management, BoDs, shareholders, customers, regulatory bodies, etc. which itself is an onerous burden.

All that being said, without coming off as being condescending, I can't fathom the notion that doctors & dentists "have to look for work".

My dentist is a well-known Jewish dude who I've been goin' to for almost 40 years now. He holds numerous patents for dental inventions and has several products in the market. His successful practice has several dentists but since he has known my parents for several decades, he takes the time to see me. To get an appointment was a complete nightmare!!! Anyway, I went in for two days of appointments and here's the list of procedures that was done to me:

* Dental X-rays;
* Cleaning sessions (on 2 separate days);
* Minor cavity excavation;
* Minor fillings;
* Root-canal (the only major work);
* Scaling; and
* Polishing.

Total cost: $8,750 (approx).

Thankfully, my corporate insurance plan covered the whole cost... but it seems as though most dentists could care less about a $10K worth of work for only a couple of hours of effort. image

Bottom line --- No matter how you slice & dice it, doctors & dentists seem to have an abundance of work, which is something I can't say for most lawyers. Heck, despite the fact that I make it abundantly clear when asserting that I am not legal counsel.... yet I have the big national PARTNORS sending me gifts (eg. top of the line tickets to sporting events, etc) soliciting RFI/RFP work in terms of sendin' potential transaction & advisory work their way. That itself is quite telling.

That is all.
