This is the catch-22 for conservatives on this issue.  McCain was an architect of the bill in question and Bush signed it into law. And in 2003 the USSC upheld it; now 7 years later they destroy it.

I am a huge believer in free speech but corporate speech/union speech/NGO speech etc should be subject to reasonable limits at certain times in my view.  And if you disagree, that's fine, but shouldn't it be the elected legislature that makes that call, not the imperial judiciary?  This is not a case, in my view, where the affront to "free speech" as we know it clearly violates the constitution.  It's a grey zone that's existed in US law for over 100 years.  And that should entitle the legislature to deference.
