Hi everyone,
I just wanted people's anonymous opinions on this topic. I'm first year associate and I suffer from cold sores since birth (if anyone doesn't know it's a strain of the herpes virus, HSV 1, which lays dormant in your nerve system and usually develops into unsightly sores on or around the lips in times of stress or immune deficiency).
It goes without saying that I find my job particularly stressful. I use to get cold sores as a child quite often but I've learned to live with them and they gradually decreased in frequency. Since law school I've experienced them a couple times a year, and since articling they're occurring more frequently it seems. I'm really self concious of them and while I know they're quite common, I just wanted people's opinions on how they view and consider their co workers who have cold sores? It's too early in my career to be taking a few days off work because of a cold sore, but I feel really insecure around my colleages. Does anyone have any advice on how I can manage these recurrences and lack of self esteem? I know I probably sound like an idiot, not sure what I'm trying to accomplish by posting this, but I would be thankful for any advice.
